Mother's Day

I had a really nice Mother's Day with Todd and the kids. The day started with me sleeping in (hooray!) then we had a delicious brunch in Campbell. Later that day, we had my whole family over for dinner. My mom and I spent a relaxing afternoon at Lisa's Tea Treasures at Santana Row the next day too. I love being a mom and I am so grateful to have such a wonderful mom in my life!

May was a very busy birthday month for us. Todd's birthday is May 10th, which was the same day as Mother's Day this year. So we shared :) We kicked off his 35th birthday by celebrating with the Brengards and Chamberlains.

Friends and twins, Hunter and Andrew, turned 3 on May 5th! We celebrated with them at their house with delicious food and plenty of activities for all the kids. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time.

Bye Bye Cribs, Hello Toddler Beds!

The time had come to take down the cribs and get toddler beds. For months the kids have been climbing out of their cribs. Since we weren't quite ready to purchase twin beds and mattresses, we bought a new toddler bed for Audrey and our good friends, Tricia and Jerry, loaned us their son, Tyler's, Cars toddler bed for Nathan. I was actually sad to see the cribs go. Just another milestone to remind me that my babies aren't babies anymore. We sold the rocking chair, high chairs and now the cribs. The kids were very excited to get their new beds and it's a lot more safe to get in and out of!

Dinner with Family

My parents took us all out to dinner at our favorite Chinese food restaurant in downtown Saratoga. My brother, Todd, spent a lot of time working on my parents' house so this was a "Thank you" to him. It was also a good-bye dinner. Todd re-inlisted in the army and left for Fort Bragg about a week ago. We are so proud of him and pray for his safety every day.

Art Show

Audrey & Nathan's preschool had their annual art show last month. Each child at the school had one piece of art matted and displayed in Willow Glen. It was very exciting to go and see their art hanging up with an official award ribbon! The kids had a playdate in the morning with friends where they all wore their PJs - so that's why you see them wearing pajamas out and about.

Daddy's Car

It's not very often that Audrey and Nathan get to see Todd in his uniform or patrol car. He leaves for work right before they go to bed and comes home sometimes before they even wake up in the morning. So when Todd did a presentation to the 4 year olds at their preschool, he stopped by the park where their preschool class was playing to say hello. The kids were so excited to see Daddy's car!

Big Basin & Capitola

We have had so much fun taking the kids on day trips now that the weather is getting nicer. Todd recently took the kids to Big Basin. It was the perfect spot to go exploring and just enjoy nature.

Our new favorite spot is Capitola beach. The kids have a great time climbing the big rocks and throwing the small ones.

On April 19th, the kids helped Derek & Trevor celebrate their 3rd birthday at KidsPark in San Jose. There were a ton of fun activities and yummy food. Nathan loved that it was a Spiderman party too!

Natural Bridges

We spent the day at Natural Bridges with friends. My first time taking the kids by myself and it was a lot of fun! There were plenty of people there to help (especially when the kids wanted to go in opposite directions) and all the kids loved exploring the caves and rocks there. It was a chilly day but that didn't seem to stop the kids!

We spent several days at my parents' condo at Pajaro Dunes right before Easter. Unfortunately the weather was really cold, windy and rainy. The kids spent some time on the beach but we ended up coming home early because it was so chilly. They love the beach and we can't wait to spend more time there this summer.

Alyssa Turns One!

At the end of March (and the kids' first outing wearing only underwear!) we celebrated Alyssa's first birthday complete with a monkey theme. Alyssa is the younger sister of Derrick and Trevor, who are in our twins playgroup. The kids had a great time playing and and really enjoyed the music instructor that came and brought so many fun instruments. Happy Birthday Alyssa!

Snail Day

I am really behind on posts - time to catch up!
At the end of March the kids had snail day at their preschool. Todd helped them find snails in the front yard the night before to bring to school. The kids were fascinated - especially Nathan. He couldn't wait to bring his new creatures. As you can see from this photo, he couldn't take his eyes off of them. Teacher Annie had leaves and black paper for the snails to move on so the kids could see their trails left behind. A very fun day at school for all the kids!

Right after Easter, the kids started asking us to wear big boy/girl underwear. Feeling kind of nervous about the whole potty training thing - we started out slow and just had them wear underwear around the house. A few accidents here and there and then we ventured out. Yikes! A park trip, a store trip and then to a birthday party. Our goal has always been not to push it - go with their lead and I'm so glad we did just that. We had no idea how it was going to be to potty train TWO toddlers at once! They did great and it has been very sweet to see them encourage each other - clapping, dancing, hugging and cheering. One goes, the other one has to go. Needless to say, we make a point of picking out the bathrooms whenever we go out because when they have to go, they have to go! We are so proud of them!

Just yesterday, Audrey tried to pull a fast one on me by putting her Raggedy Andy doll inside her crib while she snuck out to play. I didn't try that until I was 16 years old!!!!

This is what happens when two 3 year olds get ahold of some (washable!!) markers.

The kids have really been into their blankets and wanting to snuggle on the couch with the blankets from their beds or with blankets at my parent's house. Recently they wanted to be covered up in my parents' bay window! Instant bed.

I recently starting substitute teaching in the district I used to work at before these little munchkins came along. It's been a great chance for me to see old colleagues, get my foot back in the door for a future teaching job and earn a little extra money. Todd took the kids to the Monterey Bay Aquarium last week while i was subbing. The weather was gorgeous and the kids always love spending the day with Dad.

Audrey had brought several blankets stuffed inside her purse and pulled them out. She told Todd that she wanted to have a picnic - so cute!

Haley Turns 4!

Our good friend, Haley, turned 4 on March 15th and celebrated by having a Pinkalicious party at the Little Gym. Pinkalicious is a fun picture book that all the kids love! Audrey had her pink outfit all picked out a week before the party. We had to run out and find something for Nathan (and Todd!) to wear. I think they look cute in pink :) Happy Birthday Haley!

Our good friends, Chris & Vanessa, invited us to come along with them to Vegas with Vanessa's counsin, Ra, and his girlfriend, Bronwyn. An adult getaway??? How could we say no?? My WONDERFUL mom watched the kids for two nights while Todd and I snuck away for a fun filled weekend. I wish I could say we came back rested, but we didn't and it was all worth it! Preschool Fun

The kids really look forward to going to preschool every Friday. For awhile, however, Nathan wasn't too sure about school and up until recently, had a hard time on the few days that I left him. Even when I was working in the classroom, he would hang around me and get upset if I needed to leave the room for something (bathroom!). But I'm so proud to say that this past Friday was the FIRST time Nathan did not cry at all when I wasn't there working AND he really relaxed and enjoyed himself. My little guy is growing up (sniff, sniff). I guess it's bittersweet - I'm proud that he is moving forward but it is also a step toward not needing me as much. I could see a change in him the rest of the day. He even acted more confident and just seemed happy and proud. School will end in May and then the kids will go to summer school for the month of June. It's only 2 days a week but it gives us something to do and they LOVE all the activities that the teacher has during the summer - water play!!! We have really grown close to the school community and look forward to being there next year too. So much in fact, that I have decided to volunteer for a board position next year!

My babies turned 3 on Februrary 22nd!! When people ask me, "Can you believe they are 3 already?" I answer, "Yes! I can believe it!" haha I feel like I've been saying they are 2 years old for so long now. Or maybe it was a looooong year :) In any case, they are getting so big and I am enjoying every moment with them because I know time is going to go by so fast. They are getting bigger and changing and learning and growing. They are my only two so every new discovery and milestone is the first and last we get to experience. They are quite opinionated now ("I want cereal for breakfast! No, I don't want cereal, I want oatmeal!") and we are working on asking for things nicely :) Audrey will only wear 2 different party dresses when we leave the house and she only wears princess/ballernia dresses at home. Nathan also picks out his clothes every morning with a handful of favorite T-shirts (dragon, police car, pirate and cars). They like to tell us that they don't want to take a nap, or get in the carseat, or put on their shoes, or take a bath or put their pjs on, etc. etc. Life is certainly tiring with two toddlers. Audrey & Nathan have some great conversations with each other and we often hear them laughing together while playing in their bedrooms. It's been fun to see their imaginations develop. Audrey is in love with all things princesses (especially Disney princesses) and Nathan plays right along with her - tiara, heels and all! He is really into his cars, trucks and trains. Things that move, basically. He loves being read to and jumping on and running with Todd! They both love being outdoors and riding their bikes. Happy 3rd birthday to my precious little lovebugs :)

Grandma & Grandpa Trayer sent packages for the kids a few days before their birthday and they literally couldn't wait to open them. We couldn't even get the box inside the house! They sent beautiful pop up books for the kids and adorable outfits. Thank you!!!

The kids celebrated their birthday with good friend, Jaeden, who turned 3 on Feb. 20th. We had a Royal Birthday party for them at Roundtable Pizza. Guests came dressed in their royal garb.

It was a great party with lots of yummy food, activities for the kids, a play area and many good friends! I wish I would have taken more pictures of all of our wonderful guests. It was such a busy 2 hours I barely had time to sit down and eat lunch! Thank you to everyone who came to help us celebrate Audrey, Nathan and Jaeden's 3rd birthday - what a great day!!!!

First Disneyland and now Tahoe. Who are we?? haha We joke that we haven't taken may trips with the kids yet but these last few months have been very busy and fun for us! We took our first trip to the snow with the kids and two other families - our good friends the Chamberlains and the Brengards. We rented a house in South Lake and spent 5 days playing the snow and hanging out together. It was a great time for sure. We managed to get all the kids in bed and sleeping every night so the adults could actually have some time to talk (and maybe have a cocktail or two!). We can't wait to plan our next trip together now that we have one under our belts.

Yes, love was in the air....... the kids had been busy making Valentines for weeks before the big day at home, at playgroups and at school. Audrey loves to glue anything to paper (especially colored puffy balls) and Nathan sticks on a few stickers and glues a few hearts and he's "all done!" They woke up Valentine's Day morning to a few special Valentine gifts from Mom and Dad.

A Day with Dad

Todd, being the most wonderful husband on Earth, will often take the kids on outings on his days off so I can run errands, get some housework done, or just rest. I love him for this precious time to get things done and he loves spending alone time with the kids. He recently took them to Pajaro Dunes where my dad was staying for the week. In fact, he took them there two days in a row. The kids loved it! The weather was beautiful and they played on the beach all day until the late afternoon. Grandpa spoiled all three of them with lots of delicious food and yummy snacks.

Our playgroup threw Paige and Lauren a party at the beginning of the month to help them celebrate becoming big sisters soon! The theme was "Big Sisters are Blooming Here" (Katie has all the creative ideas!) It was very sweet to see them so excited and all the the kids brought them gifts to help them welcome their new siblings into the world. Expecting moms Dara and Claire looked beautiful! We can't wait to meet the new additions to our playgroup!!!

Disneyland!!!

We did it! We drove to Disneyland in January and stayed for three nights. It was SO much fun!!! The drive was not as bad as we had anticipated. The kids watched DVDs, played with some new toys (including really cool viewfinders that Todd bought for both kids), snacks, snacks and more snacks. It only took us 6.5 hours with one stop for lunch - not bad! We went to California Adventure the first evening and had dinner at Ariel's Grotto where the kids got to meet all the princesses. We spent the next two days going through Disneyland and checking out all the rides and attractions. The kids did great! They rode all the rides and weren't afraid of any of the characters. It was a lot of walking and some bribing to get them to sit in the stroller, but that's what lollipops and cotton candy are for, right!? We watched Disney's nighttime show Fantasmic twice. We saw a really neat Pixar Parade, a Disney Playhouse stage show and a few rides at California Adventure as well. There were hardly any lines and we managed to avoid the rain. It was interesting to try to get them to sleep at night in "big" beds, but by the second night they were so exhausted it wasn't too hard. Their favorite attraction was, by far, Sleeping Beauty's castle. They love the movie and recognized all the characters. We walked through that castle many times! The kids still talk about their trip to Disneyland and we can't wait to go back. It was magical!

Just Hanging Out

It has been so neat for me to see Audrey & Nathan really become friends the last few months and play so well together. Don't get me wrong - they fight like typical siblings, but being the same age and going through the same stages can be rough (especially for Mom and Dad!!!). They are starting to do more imaginative play and lately they like to pretend to be babies. They get out all their old baby blankets and they even pretend to feed each other bottles all while talking baby talk to each other. I often find them in Audrey's room, lying on the floor covered in blankets, and one of them is pretending to cry while the other one is comforting them. It's so funny and cute! They also are having more conversations with each other, besides "Mine!" and "Stop!" Audrey refers to her brother as, "My Natey" and Nathan is always asking, "Where's Audee?" We've been working on using polite words and instead of hitting or yelling, asking, in a nice way what they want. Very sweet when it actually happens :)

The kids like to hide in the tunnels, usually right before bedtime! But they pop up and play peek-a-boo with each other and just laugh.

Once again, time is just flying by and I promised myself I would keep up with the blog!! So..... Happy New Year!! We kicked off 2009 with a Toddler New Year's Eve party at our friends' house, the Brengards, and partied hard until 8 pm with the Chamberlains and Kemlings!

Haley brought out her new karaoke machine that she got for Christmas. Nathan liked yelling in the microphone (and eating it, apparently!).

On actual Christmas day, I took the kids to my parents' house (while Todd slept from working the night before). They opened gifts with my brothers, sister and my parents. We went back home for naps, got dressed up, and came back (with Todd this time) for Christmas dinner. My counsins, aunt, uncle and grandma were there too. It was so nice to spend the day with family!

Christmas is Finally Here!!!

Santa came to the Trayer house a day early because he knew that Todd had to work that night. Wasn't that nice??! The build up of this day has been so much fun now that the kids are 2 years old and are starting to understand the magic of Christmas. They have loved looking at Christmas decorations in the neighborhood, visiting Christmas in the Park, Gilroy Gardens Holiday Lights, Vasona Park Lights, Santa visits, gift exchanges, parties, cookie decorating, etc. The kids even know the words to some Christmas songs (courtesy of Todd playing them over and over again! haha OK, I admit it, I have had Christmas music going on in the car for about a month now.) Our favorite has to be Audrey's version of "We wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy two ears." It's definitely been a wonderful time of year and neat to see it through the eyes of 2 year olds. Todd and I look forward to volunteering more in the community this coming year and start to make this a regular part of our lives as a family. Santa, family and friends were very generous to the kids and I want the kids to feel the joy of giving as well. We took so many photos Christmas Eve morning, I tried to narrow it down.

Audrey couldn't wait to see if Santa had eaten the cookies and drank the chocolate milk (his favorite according to her) that we left out. Santa even left a note!

A Visit with Santa

We waited a little bit longer this year to see Santa at the mall. The kids sat on Santa's lap at Christmas in the Park, but I really wanted to get a photo of them with Santa at the mall. We were so busy and just couldn't find the time until about a few days before Christmas. We decided to go to Vallco on Monday morning and when we got there the line was already pretty long. Luckily the kids did great and Todd kept them entertained until it was our turn. Audrey and Nathan were excited to sit on his lap and got right up there when it was their turn. Santa was very sweet and asked them what they wanted for Christmas. He wasn't as chubby as I remember him to be :)

Since Todd has to work on Christmas Eve (boo hoo!) we celebrated Christmas early with his brother, Kevin, his wife, Cathleen, and their kids Kately and Ryan. Nathan and Audrey always love visiting their cousins in Newman, CA. Katelyn and Ryan play with the kids and their house is always full of fun, new toys! It was a really nice evening and as always, they spoiled the kids will gifts. Somehow I did not get a picture of the adults that evening -- sorry!

We Love Our Neighbors!

Todd and I feel so lucky to be living where we live. About 3 years ago Todd's parents retired and moved to Idaho. We just couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy their home - knowing it would be a great place to raise the kids and already knowing what wonderful neighbors they have! The Wreaks (Shirley, Chip, Karlie, Mia, Frankie and Lizzie) live right next door and we love them all dearly. We see them outside all the time and the kids are so comfortable with the them, they often go right up and knock on the door, wanting to come inside and visit! Of course, they welcome the kids in and treat them like their own. Shirley gave the kids early Christmas presents. Nathan received a knight's armor - shield, breast plate, helmet and sword. Shirley, how did you know??!! Nathan wears the exact same thing at preschool every week! Audrey was so excited to get her very own princess baseball bat and ball. Perfect! Thank you!!!

My brother and I celebrated our birthdays (mine is the 11th and Todd's is the 22nd) with a yummy family dinner at Kyoto Palace at the Pruneyard in Campbell. It's like Bennihana's where they cook the food in front of you. The kids were very entertained and enjoyed the food. Thank you Mom and Dad for a delicious meal!!!

Christmas in the Park and Getting a Tree

We bundled up the kids and headed to Christmas in the Park (a downtown San Jose tradition) with friends Aaron, Allicyn, Haley and Lily. It was a cooooooold evening!!! The kids loved it. It was so fun to see their reactions this year (compared to last year). They ooohed and aaaahed over the animatronics, lights and decorations. They also sat on Santa's lap and told him what they wanted this year for Christmas. We weren't sure if they would be afraid or not, but sure enough they sat right on his lap!

We contemplated buying a fake tree this year and once we finally made up our minds, the one we wanted was all sold out. So we packed up the kids and headed to the Santa Cruz mountains one beautiful Monday morning, only to discover the tree farms were closed. Sooooo, we drove to the closest tree lot and picked out a tree!

The month of December has been so fun already! We have two close friends whose kids have December birthdays and we had a gift exchange with our playgroup (missed the twins playgroup party because we were sick - boo hoo!) and a holiday celebration with good friends that has become an annual tradition.

The kids celebrated Madison and Logan's 3rd birthday in December also. They colored, made necklaces, played and jumped in the bounce house. They even got to take home some toy animals. Los Gatos Holiday Parade

On the first Saturday in December, the kids and I walked in the Los Gatos Holiday Parade with the parents of multiples club (Gemini Crickets). This was our first year participating and we had a blast!!! The parade was really big but still had a nice hometown feel. It felt a little strange at first walking in the parade and having everyone staring (and waving) at us but I've never been very shy, so I got over it quickly! We all decorated our strollers and wagons with festive holiday decor. Audrey and Nathan gave out a few waves and smiles, but I don't think really understood what it meant to be in a parade. They loved watching it afterward though! It was a fun event and a great way to promote our club.

This was our first preschool event! I love that their holiday party was school wide because it gives parents a chance to get to know each other and the other kids, even if the kids aren't in the same class. This party was so much fun - yummy food and lots of activities for the kids. One of the MANY reasons why I love Explorer Preschool - the community!

He's a Boy and She's a Girl

When I wrote that I am exhausted every night because of the kids, I really wasn't joking. I am EXHAUSTED every day. During the past few months we have seen more than our share of tantrums and typical 2 year old behavior - times two! Having twins really is a unique experience and I often find myself venting or asking questions of my fellow twin moms about discipline issues. Nathan and Audrey really are typical 2 year olds, but being the exact same age is often very frustrating because they want the same things at the same time (i.e. our attention, toys, certain foods, drinks, etc.). This often results in crying, yelling, hitting and grabbing. (Sigh......) Some days are easier than others, don't get me wrong. The wonderful thing about having twins is watching them interact and really change and grow up together. Todd and I have seen some of the sweetest interactions between these two crazy toddlers and overheard even sweeter conversations. It's been a roller coaster ride these last few months, that's for sure. I am constantly being challenged as a parent of twins. I've read several wonderful parenting books, full of great information and advice, but somehow in the heat of the moment, I can't always seem to remember the "right" words to use or the perfect way to handle a toddler tantrum. Most days I have to take a deep breath and remember that they are only 2 (almost 3!) and we are all learning together. Patience is something I pray for every day! haha I've also learned so much from the kids' preschool, which has required parent education classes. It's nice to know these crazy tantrums are normal and they are learning so much from us and the world around them every day.

Being a child development major in college, I remember learning about gender stereotypes with children and toys. That children should be exposed to all kind of toys and to discourage gender specific toys. Having a boy and girl really gave us the opportunity to expose both kids to different types of toys without really thinking about it. We have a little bit of everything. I quickly learned from being in the kids' classroom at preschool that some of the best toys are gender neutral - blocks, art supplies, pretend food, animals, sand toys, books, play dough, etc. Given all this, it still is so interesting to me how Audrey is so drawn to girl specific things like dresses, jewelry and dolls and Nathan is into rough and tough play, trucks, cars, power tools, sports equipment, etc. I think the following pictures really reflect that!

We spent Thanksgiving day with my family -Mom, Dad, Todd, Kalyn, (Ryan had "other" plans - whatever Ryan!! hehe) my grandma, cousin Kelly and Kalyn's friend Cheryl. My mom prepared a delicious meal as always. Everything was sooooo yummy! Someday I'll have to learn how to cook a Thanksgiving dinner. But Mom is doing such a fabulous job, I just don't see any reason to rush into it :)

Playing Catch Up!

AHHHH, the guilt!! I can't believe I haven't updated the blog since November 1st! All I can say is that these two 2-year-olds are really keeping us busy. I am so exhausted every night and with the holidays in full swing, I just can't seem to keep on top of everything. Oh, and I think someone in our house has been sick since November 1st (or at least it feels that way!). Enough of the excuses. We have been doing a lot of fun things with the kids during November and now it's almost the end of the year. The kids are still going to preschool once a week on Fridays at Explorer. We are also still very involved with the multiples club (Gemini Crickets) and I, along with another mom of twins, have been planning monthly general meetings - which I love doing! Todd is still working the midnight shift. I have given up trying to keep the kids quiet during the day so he can get some sleep, which means I have been taking them out every day. You have to get creative when the weather is cold and/or rainy. My goal is to tire them out so they take nice, long naps. Thank God my parents live 5 minutes away - we've been spending most weekend mornings with them! Speaking of naps - our little Nathan has learned how to climb out of his crib recently. So for several days he did NOT nap and didn't go to sleep at night until very late because he continued to get out of his crib. Arghhhh!!!! Until my friend Katie loaned us the best invention ever made - a crib tent!!!! I still have to take a picture of it, but for those of you with small children, I'm sure you have one or have at least heard of one. It keeps kids in their cribs - enough said!

So now I have to do some catch up....... we started off November celebrating Lauren's (a friend from playgroup) 2nd birthday. The kids had a great time decorating gingerbread houses. As you can see from the pictures, this was right up their alley - cookies, frosting, and candy, lots of different types too! All the kids loved it! It was a fun day - Happy Birthday Lauren!

Happy Halloween!!!

The big day finally arrived! Every year Todd outdoes himself with decorations in the front yard. This year was no exception! So many people stopped by to check out our spooky car crash scene. Neighbors knocked on the door, cars slowed down - we were afraid our Halloween scene was going to cause an actual car crash! It was scary, for sure, but the kids loved it - fake blood and all! We had scary music playing, smoke machine going and a TON of trick or treaters. Todd had to buy more candy around 8 pm because we were running out! The Chamberlains and the Brengards come over to trick or treat with us. My mom brought her famous 9 bean soup (yum!) and Dad passed out candy while we took the kids out. My sister and her friends even came by on their way to a "real" party. It was a frightfully good time!

If there was a Halloween event, we were there! There was so much to choose from this month with all the trick or treating events, costume parties and pumpkin patches. I actually don't even have pictures from ALL the fun stuff we did this month. Here are some pictures of the many October activities we did with the kids! Friend and fellow twin mom, Carla D., offered to take professional photographs of the kids at Lemos Farm Pumpkin Patch in Half Moon Bay. Not only is she an extremely talented photographer, but she also makes and sells skirts and dresses for toddler girls. Audrey owns one of her skirts and we can't wait to buy a dress for the holidays! Here in the Trayer household, we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Halloween!! I think I just might enjoy it more than Christmas (shhhhh, don't tell!). For the last two years, we've been going to all the fun pumpkin patches we can find in the area. Our first trip this October season was one of our favorites: Uesugi Farms in Morgan Hill. It has everything - train rides, hay rides, pony rides, delicious food, and lots and lots of pumpkins. Including a giant pumpkin pyramid. It has been tradition to meet our good friends, the Chamberlains, the Brengards and the Kemlings, at Uesugi to celebrate Allicyn's birthday (Oct. 7th).

First Day of Preschool!

On Friday, September 26, Audrey and Nathan had their official first day of preschool!! They attended a Together Time class for parents and toddlers last fall and summer at Explorer Parent Participation Preschool in San Jose. We LOVED it so much, that they are now enrolled in the Friday 2s class. They adore Teacher Annie and have many friends in the class too.

Wine Tasting with Friends

Yes, every once in a while, even Todd and I are able to get out without the kids! We were invited by fellow twin parents, Kristi and Bill, to join them and two other couples (also parents of twins!) Jeff and Theresa, Marcel and Kathie, wine tasting at Savannah Chanelle Vineyards in Saratoga. Kristi and Bill bid on and won this wine tasting tour at the Gemini Crickets Parents of Multiples Club of Silicon Valley auction and fundraiser. The scenery was beautiful and the wine was very tasty. Kristi and Bill even had a limo come pick up each couple and take them home. I think they knew how much we all needed a glass (or two, or three!) of wine. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon but with good friends and good wine! Thank you Kristi and Bill!!!

Our Getaway in the Woods

It's no secret that our family hasn't done a lot of traveling yet (check out my blog post on Mad About Multiples). Having twins just makes things like plane rides and long car trips a little bit more difficult (stressful?) than your average family with one child. We've spent a few long weekends at my parents' condo at Pajaro Dunes but that's about all we can handle. So when the opportunity came to stay at a family friends' cabin in Arnold, CA, came we decided it was time to bite the bullet and go for it! It was about a three hour car drive and our thought (hope) was that we'd leave around 1 pm (naptime!) and the kids would sleep part of the way. Well, wouldn't you know, they stayed up the ENTIRE time until we were about half hour away from the cabin and they both zonked out. Which meant a late nap and some crankiness when they woke up. Once we got there and settled in, the kids had a blast! We stayed four nights and five days. The kids had to sleep in "big beds," upstairs and in the same room. Gulp! This was all very new to them (and us) so without going into the crazy details let's just say the first two nights could have been episodes on Supper Nanny. We must have chased them back into bed a bazillion times the first night until they finally passed out around 11 pm. The second night we got smart (so we thought) and I put them down at their regular bedtime and layed in bed with them hoping they'd fall asleep. That took about an hour, but we were making progress. As I lay there "pretending" to be asleep, I could hear Audrey whispering to Nathan, "Come on, Natey, let's go downstairs. You open the door." By the fourth night they were so exhausted that they were asleep by the time their little heads hit the pillow, and then it was time for us to leave the next day. At least we now know it's possible!

The cabin was so beautiful and we felt very lucky to be staying there! We took the kids swimming in a man-made lake, threw rocks in a creek and played at a nearby park. It was just nice to be away for a few days and I told Todd that this was MY version of camping! He he.

6 am - Hear Audrey and Nathan crying in their cribs. They want to get up. I close my eyes and cover my head with the covers, praying they go back to sleep so I can get another hour of much needed rest. Remember that I have a Mom's Night Out tonight - close my eyes and smile.

7 am - They have been quiet for a while but now I hear Audrey saying, "Mommy, I have poo-poo." Then she preceeds to yell to Nathan that she has poo-poo. Nathan just cries.

I walk into her room only to find her naked waist down with her pajama bottoms, sleep sac and POOPY diaper on the floor. This is a first. Well, at least it wasn't a messy one. No signs of poop in the crib. Everything is laying neatly on the floor. I can handle this.

7:30 am - Nathan hears the garbage truck outside so we all run out to watch it. He is in heaven - very cute. We come back inside and Audrey demands to butter her own toast. She's becoming quite independent. Most of the butter makes it on the bread but there are a few chunks on the floor. Nathan puts one giant blob of butter on his waffle and everyone sits down to eat.

7:35 am - Both kids spill their cups of orange juice within seconds of each other (we are working on drinking out of a big cup). Nathan spills his all over his waffle, begins to cry. Audrey spills her all over her shorts and wants to get out of her chair. (Sigh.....)

7:45am - I finally sit down to eat my breakfast when both kids coming running over with dress up clothes in their hands. They need help putting them on - Audrey wears a purple ballerina dress with a Hawaiian ley and a "pink bone" (pink feather boa). Nathan wants me to help him put on a white lacy skirt and bunny ears. Go to take a picture, but the camera says "card locked" - not sure what that means but I've missed a really cute picture.

8:15 am - Kids are running around with umbrellas. Does not seems safe so I have to confiscate them immediately! Now they both want bananas. Nathan enjoys his. Audrey wants to peel it all by herself, takes one bite and then throws it in the garbage. Ummm, Mom is NOT happy. She pulls a stool up to the counter (her new favorite thing to do) and tries to lift a cantaloup down "all by herself."

8:15-9 am - While I'm changing Audrey's bedding she continues to hit Nathan over the head with a blanket. He starts screaming. (Try to stay calm, remember Mom's Night Out tonight!) Throw Audrey's bedding in the washing machine, snuggle with Nathan on the couch and read some books, put together a puzzle with both kids (25 pieces!). Now, can I sneak away to actually brush my teeth and put my clothes on?? Quick email check to see if any of my playgroup moms are meeting today. Not sure what I'm going to do with the kids yet.

9 am - Brush teeth, wash face, attempt some make up and change clothes. Both kids come into the bathroom and start to get into stuff. Audrey takes my facial toner and starts to squeeze it out all over the counter. Take it out of her hands before she does too much damage. She loves to play in my make up bag.

Try to redirect kids so I can pack up their snacks and lunch and get out the door. Quickly unload dishwasher while kids get back in their seats to finish their uneaten breakfast from earlier. No juice spills this time - hooray! Call my friend Vanessa to see if she wants to meet us at the park in an hour. Clean up breakfast dishes and start to pack up for the park. Notice cheerios spilled all over the carpet. Vacuum that up. Turn off the vacuum and notice how quiet it is. Kids have figured out how to unlock the front door and are outside - YIKES! Nathan is crying because Audrey is in his car. Corral them back in, lock the door and hurry up to leave.

Todd calls to see how my morning is going. I tell him about the poopy diaper on the floor and admit that the kids escaped while I was vacuuming. He reminds me to set the chime feature on our house alarm so I know when a door is opened. Great idea! He also says he will take the kids to my parents' house to swim when he gets home from work so I can run errands or just have some quiet time. I love my husband.

10 am - Everyone is loaded up in the car and we head to my favorite drive-thru coffee - Caffino. Coffee always fixes everything :) Sing along to the Wiggles in the car.

10:15 am - Arrive at park. Looks pretty empty because school is back in session. Lather the kids in sunscreen, load up the stroller with drinks, lunch, sand toys, diapers and wipes. Oh, don't forget the coffee! Kids run toward the park. Ahhh, we made it.

10:30-12:45 - Kids have a blast playing. Vanessa and Jaeden come shortly after and it's nice to have friends there. Nathan and Audrey scoot and crawl over the netted bridge for the first time! Nathan is more confident on the big play structure and goes down the big slide. They spend a lot of time in the sand where it's shaded - digging, playing with trucks, making "muffins" and chatting with new friends. One child wants to take Audrey's shovel out of her hands and Audrey gets upset. I come over to help out. As the kids' preschool teacher would say, "They are learning compromise and negotiation skills." I love her. Vanessa and I push the kids in the swings while we catch up with each other. In between all the playing the kids snack on their lunch. The weather is perfect.

Toward the end of the afternoon, I notice Audrey is in a lot of pain. She tells me her bottom hurts. Uh oh. I change her diaper and she has a really red bottom. Poor thing is very upset. I feel terrible that I don't have any diaper cream with me, so we quickly pack up and head home. I wonder if that's why she took off her diaper this morning?

1 pm - Change kids' diapers, wash their hands with soap and water and put them down for naps! They both go down without a sound - the park really wore them out. Now I have to use this time to clean up the kitchen and rest of the house. We left this morning in such a hurry - it was a disaster. First, I need to check email and Facebook (my new addiction).

I put away toys, clean up the kitchen, sweep and mop the floors (sticky from the juice spills). It's the least I can do to leave Todd with a nice, clean house when he comes home. Need to call my mom and wish them a Happy Anniversary (and check to make sure it's OK Todd brings the kids over to swim later). Check email, eat an orange.

2:45 pm - Nathan wakes up first (he always does). Get him some milk and we start to read a few books. Audrey wakes up shortly after. The three of us snuggle on the couch and watch Dora the Explorer. Kids start getting restless and it's very warm outside. Try to keep them entertained in the house for as long as I can.

3:30 pm - We go in the backyard and eat popsicles. Kids play and I start watching the clock, waiting for Todd to come home. Kids don't last long in the backyard so we head out to the front yard. I suddenly remember that I have to bring a treat to my mom's night out and don't think I have enough time (or energy) to run to the store beforehand. I'm hoping Todd comes home soon!

4 pm - Kids play in the front yard. We take a short walk around the neighborhood. Stop and talk to Mr. Hamill down the street. Need to start thinking about getting ready for my night out. Audrey pulls Nathan is a small wagon, then they switch. Very sweet. Kids ride their bikes.

5 pm - Start to get dinner ready. Todd calls to say he'll be late (boo hoo!). Kids don't eat very much of their dinner. I throw some cookies in the oven to bring tonight. We head back outside to wait for Daddy.

6 pm - Todd is home! I run inside to try and get ready (i.e. change my clothes, touch up my make up and brush my teeth) before heading out. I'm already exhausted from the day but will muster up some energy.

6:30 pm - Kiss everyone good bye and head out! Several moms from my playgroup get together at one of the mom's home for appetizers, dessert and wine. Ahhh, it's nice to sit outside and chat with them without being interrupted by kids. We eat too much, drink too much and of course talk too much.

11 pm - 11 pm already?? What a great evening and I definitely needed it. Head home and go to sleep. Afterall, there's no sleeping in for me! Kids will be up at 7 am on the dot and ready to begin another fun and exhausting day!

Todd's Promotion and Party!

On August 22nd Todd had his official promotional ceremony. He was promoted to sergeant early (six months ago) and had to wait for the next group of promotees in order to be part of the ceremony. The kids and I had the honor of pinning on his badge. My parents and Todd's parents (who drove here from Idaho) were at the ceremony too. Todd took the test about 2 years ago - right when Nathan and Audrey were born AND we moved into our current house. Needless to say there were many distractions going on at the time. Most people dedicate about a year to study and prepare for this very rigorous test. It's extremely competitive. We are SO proud of you, Todd! Congratulations Sergeant Trayer!

A Day With Dad

It's no secret that Todd is an amazing father and husband. He is totally committed to his family and has always given 100 percent when it comes to the kids. From day one, Todd has been very comfortable taking care of both kids by himself. When they were younger, he would throw them in the stroller and take them for a nice, long walk while I rested and there have been many afternoons at the park or outside in the front yard playing while I get some housework done. I have enjoyed many kid-free mornings and/or afternoons to run errands, get caught up around the house, grab a coffee and get a pedicure, or enjoy some much needed quiet time. He loves spending time with the kids and he's always looking for new and fun places to take them. A few weeks ago he took both kids to the beach by himself and this past week he took them to Fairyland in Oakland (while I did some shopping!). As you can see from the pictures, the kids had a great time with Dad! And yes, Audrey wanted to wear two headbands that day - one in her hair and one around her neck. She picked them out.

Becoming Friends

The kids are officially 2.5 years old (tomorrow)! They continue to change every single day and I am always amazed at how much they are learning (and repeating!). It's been fun to watch their friendship develop. Like most friendships, they have their ups and downs. They are exploring their independence and each other's limits. Favorite words these days are, "Mine!" and "No!" But more often than not, you can see them playing together, figuring out how to take turns, share, and comfort each other. They also have conversations with each other. It's very sweet. Nathan always wants to know where Audrey is: "Where'd Audee go?" even if she's in the same room. Audrey definitely takes the lead and likes to tell Nathan what they will be doing that day, which he happily replies, "OK, Audee!" She tells him, "Good job, Natey" when he does something all by himself or "It's OK" if he's upset. She's even been trying to sneak lollipops out of the lunchbag that I keep hidden but always gets one for Natey too. They chase each other around the house, laughing, and their favorite thing to do is hide in the gazeebo curtains outside. They are the sweetest kids and I just love watching them play together (when I'm not being a referee!).

I'm also happy to report that my two little binkie addicts are now only using their pacifiers at naptime and bedtime. Todd and I were really worried about how they were going to be with this new binkie rule, but they have been great! Of course every once in a while I will catch Audrey slipping her little hands inside the crib slats, trying desperately to reach a binkie. Just today as I was changing her diaper, she said to me, "Mommy, look in my mouth." That little stinker had a binkie in her mouth and I didn't even notice! I guess we are all getting used to this new rule :) Everytime I take Nathan out of his crib, he tosses his binkie down and says, "Noooo binkie." And he was the one I was most worried about!

Todd recently filled up the spa and at a cool 90 degrees the kids have been swimming almost every day after their nap. They love to splash and fill up cups, jump from the seats, plug their noses and go under water! They especially love it when Todd gets in with them.

On August 8th, my little sister turned 22! We celebrated by having a delicious and very entertaining meal at Kyoto Palace at the Pruneyard in Campbell. Her friend, Clothilde, is visiting from France and has an August birthday also. Thank you, Mom and Dad, for a wonderful dinner and a fun evening out!!

Always in search of something new and fun to do with the kids, we discovered a place in Santa Clara called Sky High Sports. The first time we tried to go, we got there a little bit too late and the place was full! So we came back bright and early a week later for Toddler Tuesdays. It's basically a giant trampoline where kids and adults can jump until exhausted - which is exactly what we did! Yes, even I jumped! The kids definitely had more stamina than we did.

In the toddler area there was a giant foam pit. Scary or fun..... we aren't quite sure. Let's just say it was hard to get out of as you can see on Todd's face!

Last weekend we went to a party at Theresa and Jeff's house (they have 2 year old twin boys!). The BIG hit at the party: 3 ATV's the kids could ride on. Here is Nathan giving his friend, Sterling, a ride.

Uncle Jeff - A published author!

Busy, Busy, July!

Thank you to everyone who has already checked out the blog. It is really motivating me to keep on top of it, and believe me, I can always use a good kick in the butt to get started on something! My dad was wondering where the pictures of him are and if I don't post some soon we can't come over and go swimming anymore. Sorry, Dad. It wasn't intentional, but you were gone for most of July and Mom doesn't exactly like to jump in front of the camera. You better believe I will be snapping away next time we come over (today? please?) so you don't feel left out.

July is proving to be a very fun and busy month. During Todd's days off, we are on the go, cramming in as many activities as we can. It's hard to take 2 toddlers out so I take advantage while I have him home.

We were invited by the new owners of Themefest in San Jose to an open house. The kids really love coming here, so much so, we had their 2nd birthday party there. I Have A Hobby!

For months (years?) now Todd and various other members of my family have joked that I need to get a hobby. I guess chasing around and cleaning up after two 2-year-olds isn't enough these days. I hate to admit it, but they are right. I often complain that I'm too tired to do much of anything once the kids go to bed. All I can do is plant my butt on the couch and watch reality TV (and I don't plan on giving that up anytime soon!). Mommy guilt has kicked in and I feel bad that I don't have our family photos organized and my grand ideas of journaling every little thing Audrey and Nathan do hasn't really happened either. Todd is working nights now so I have no excuse! This blog is my new hobby! When the kids go to bed and the house is quiet, I can still sit on the couch while updating everyone on all the latest happenings. It's a lot easier than scrapbooking and I promise to keep on top of it!

Summertime Fun

I thought I would do a little catch-up since so much has happened during the summer already. We kicked it off with a visit from Grandma and Grandpa Trayer. They drove here from their home in Idaho and stayed with us for about 11 days. We kept them busy, that's for sure!

Our first outing was a trip to the Oakland Zoo.

I just can't believe that my babies are 2+ years old! Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday Todd and I were struggling to get pregnant and now I have two beautiful children who continue to change and grow every single day. Nathan is in love with anything that has wheels including trucks, cars (police cars are his favorite!), fire engines and trains. He follows Todd around and wants to be right by his side and he loves to help him in the yard. He is so cuddly and is still very much attached to his binkie and blankie. Audrey is Miss Chatter Box and has to give us a recap of the day every night before bed. She loves to dress up and has been caught more than once in my make up bag applying eye shadow, powder and lotion. She is a little bit more independent and wants to do things on her own. Nathan wants to know where we are at all times and doesn't like it if we are out of sight. Both kids love music (they get that from Todd) and books (they get that from me). We often joke that if both kids are into sports, we will definitely be out of our comfort zone - so for now, it's dancing, music, costumes and funny singing voices. Oh, and endless trips to the park!

Over the last several months, we have been lucky enough to have friends offer to take photos of the kids as well as some family shots. We did not hesistate to take them ALL up on their offers! It's not easy to get decent pictures of both kids and forget Todd and I trying to get in a picture. One of us is holding the camera, while the other one is chasing down the kid that won't stay still. We were in desperate need of some current photos and now we have so many wonderful pictures that I'm having a hard time deciding which ones to frame! Thank you to all of our fabulously creative and talented friends!

Good friends and neighbors of ours (who happen to have 2 year old twins!) recently took pictures of Audrey and Nathan at Vasona Park in Los Gatos. These pictures were a suprise Father's Day gift for Todd. They turned out so beautiful! I love them all!! Thank you Crozier Family!

Fellow twin mom, Linda, is working on starting a photography business and asked if she could take photos of us at our house. Ummm, a free photo session?? Yes, please! She did a beautiful job and we felt so grateful to have some family photos - which are hard to come by these days. These are just a few of my favorites (way too many to post!) I love the bubble pictures!

Earlier in the year our friend Kurt took photos of us. We loved these pictures so much we had them blown up and framed and they are hanging on our wall in the living room. We couldn't help but put the kids' picture on mugs for both grandmas for Mother's Day. You can see more of Kurt's photos on his website.
